Agree, im not a materialist either but there still is great value in analyzing. As much as Kant annoys me the Critique of Pure Reason gets it right in that physical/rational explanations only do so much and cannot explain the spiritual world.
If it wasn’t for Substack, I would have NEVER agreed with a statement like: “Socrates had it coming.”

Socrates angered the Sophists, not "the people".
Lycon was a sophist, but Meletus was a poet who attacked Socrates from a religious angle, and Anytus was a politician and tradesman.
Thrasymachus, Protagoras, Hippias, Gorgias, many such cases.
