Well alright, I'll give it a proper read to see if he can dissuade my opinion.
But I hold that:
1. the most vocal of animals and mammals communicate with song - suggesting it prefigures speech. and
2. the lowest elements of humanity - including those handicapped and incapable of speech - still like to hum a tune.
I’m pretty agnostic on the question, and certainly need to do more research, but I think Spengler’s claims about the origin of speaking are compelling.
